MP calls for internet safeguards
Wednesday, 14 November 2007
Southport's MP John Pugh has tabled a Commons motion calling for video sharing sites such as YouTube to do more to prevent uncontrolled uploading of material some of which features acts of bullying, animal cruelty and sadism. Early Day Motion 159 call on sites like YouTube to use 'moderators' to assess content before it is published in order to prevent such abuses. The MP says the broadcasting of acts of bullying and cruelty is "an abuse of the media" and that the current system which relies on users to report offensive videos after viewing them is  "incompatible with responsible corporate behaviour".
