Pugh attacks Government's IT strategy
Wednesday, 17 October 2007

Westminster Hall, 9th October: John Pugh urges the Government to re-think its procurement strategy for IT contracts. He argues that the present system has given Microsoft too much control - to the extent that users of non-windows PCs and those preferring not to use Microsoft's web browser (Internet Explorer) are unable to access all the services of online Government, such as those offered by the Department for Work and Pensions or HM Revenue.

He argues further that the Government should be more receptive the use of Open Source software and follow the examples set by the private sector and other EU Governments.
