Post Office Battle Begins

John Pugh will meet with Post Office officials next week to discuss the ''Southport Area Plan" proposals which could see more of of the town's Post Office's closed - an outcome the MP has vowed to fight. John requested a meeting with officials to discuss in detail what their proposals for the town will entail, ahead of the consultation period for the proposals which begins on January 22nd. John vowed to raise the issue of how concerned local people are at the potential loss of services, and urged people to make their voices heard when the consultation process gets underway.

MP Calls For Local Focus on Climate Change

Southport MP John Pugh has today called for the issue of climate change to be given prominence on the local political agenda. A study conducted by Friends of the Earth revealed that the Sefton area is behind the national average when it comes to issues such as energy efficiency; the 15.6% improvement made in Sefton lags behind the 17.6% national average, and falls well short of the 28% improvement made in Chester and Oldham.

MP Asks Supermarkets to Recycle Christmas Profits

Southport MP John Pugh wrote to local supermarkets urging them to do more to encourage recycling in the town. With local people drowning in a sea of Christmas packaging, the MP is concerned that supermarkets aren't pulling their weight in regards to providing facilities for people to recycle.

SEFTON PCT LOST RECORDS TIP OF ICEBERG

The loss of personal data by Sefton PCT and other health trusts raises big question marks about the government's plan to centralise medical data in one huge database according to MPJohn Pugh who has for some time been a critic of the £6billion project.
