MP "Shocked" By BSI U-Turn Rumour

Liberal Democrat MP for Southport John Pugh says he is "shocked" by recent rumours surrounding The British Standards Institute's stance on Microsofts embattled OOXML format. Source close to the BSI have suggested that the institute is set to approve the format as an international standard - a turnaround from their previous position which Dr Pugh describes as "highly surprising if true".

Pugh Argues Against Tax Office Closure

Westminster Hall Debate, 12th March: John Pugh argues that the Government's plan to rationalise HMRC offices in smaller towns and cities throughtout the UK has not been thought through properly and that the planned closures could lead to "ersatz savings, pseudo-efficiency and, in consequence, a lot of unnecessary human anxiety". CONTROVERSIAL EMBRYO LAW HITS THE COMMONS...and MP in thick of it

Key issues surrounding the controversial legislation on Embryology and Fertilisation are to be discussed at a public meeting to be attended by local MP John Pugh at Christ the King this Sunday (16th). The MP, who is likely to be on the Bill Committee, is already involved with the issues and will be at the meeting to explain his reservations about the Government's plans and what is likely to happen now in Parliament.

MP Raises Tax Office Closure in Parliament

Southport's MP John Pugh this morning met several staff from the local tax office unhappy with proposals to relocate them to Liverpool. Dr Pugh has blasted the move as being "deeply cynical" after staff raised concerns about being able to keep their jobs when faced with an 80-minute rush hour commute. A large proportion of the staff affected are women with young children, who are simply unable to travel to Liverpool on a daily basis; the fact that many of these women will now have to give up their jobs is something which Dr Pugh claims is in direct contradiction with current government policy.
