"It's a long way to tip a bin"
Monday, 09 July 2007
Local MP John Pugh was contacted when residents of Cherry Rd -  many in pensioners' bungalows - found they had over 80 yards to wheel their bins!  The residents surround a green and do NOT have roadside access but were told they had to leave their bins on the pavement by the road - a big problem for anyone not in good health.

The MP says: "It’s a glitch and I am glad to say that the initial reaction of the council to the problem is positive and helpful. I am very hopeful of a solution. You can never know all the problems in advance."

MP faces a long-haul trip"The Select Committee on Local Government which I am on will shortly be releasing a report on Rubbish Collection based on experiences and evidence from right across the land and one thing we have learnt is that you must have local flexibility. Rural areas and bedsit land are particularly problematic but many other areas present challenges no matter what system the local council uses."

He adds: "There's always room for a sensible dialogue!".
