John Pugh who met reecently with the Ambulance Trust at the Regional HQ expressed pleasure that the PFI scheme involving new ambulance and fire service facilities in Southport is to proceed with BOTH emergency services. During his meeting John Pugh learnt that as from April 1st the target for ambulance arrival is being reduced to 8 minutes under a new scheme called 'Call Connect'. This times the wait from the moment the phone gets picked up at the switchboard. The location of any caller is immediately identified by the computers without the caller having to say. "This is a very challenging new system for the ambulan ce system and I am not sure about the choice of date to start from BUT it will clearly have benefits". "Another plus for Southport residents will be the linking up of the radio systems of the previously separate Merseyside and Lancashire services. Because we are on the edge of the Merseyside County Area In the past ambulances have come from Crosby when there might have been a Lancashire one nearer in Scarisbrick. Equally an ambulance could come from Skelmersdale to Scarisbrich when there was one in Southport. Now we have one Ambulance Service for the North West this waste of time and resources should cease. We should all get a better service." |
