MP to Meet With Ambulance Chiefs |
|
Thursday, 20 March 2008 |
Southport MP John Pugh will meet with North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) officials next week to discuss the fate of the town's ambulance station. Dr Pugh strongly opposes any plans to relocate the station away from the town centre, and has described any proposals to situate the station as far away as Formby as "dangerous and ill-conceived".
NWAS officials claim that an Ambulance Trust "presence" will be maintained in the town, and the MP will now be meeting with NWAS top brass at their Liverpool HQ in order to clarify the issue:
"I've been assured by NWAS that the Ambulance Trust will maintain a 'presence' in Southport - I now intend on finding out precisely what that means" commented the MP this morning. "The proposal to relocate the station to Formby seems to be completely out of touch with the needs of local people, and I believe it would put lives at risk. I plan on asking NWAS just how seriously they are considering this proposal, and exactly how they think it is justified".
