MP urges Council to investigate deaths
Friday, 08 December 2006
John Pugh MP is calling upon the council to conduct its own enquiry into how a pensioner was killed by a dumper truck in Tulketh St.

"Few blows fall so heavily on a family than a death before Christmas, and the thoughts of all will be with the Broley family." Dr Pugh goes on to say:

"This tragic event will of course be the subject of Police and Health and Safety investigation but there has been a long standing issue about project management on the Council side. Councillors, traders and members of the public and other stakeholders have for some time privately and publicly questioned not the project itself but the council officers' delivery of it.

"I do not think there is an alternative now to a proper and transparent enquiry that establishes lines of responsibility. There are many who will say this was an accident waiting to happen as workmen hastened to get things ready for Christmas. Councillors now have some hard and painful questions to put to the council's Highways' Department."
