Renal Dialysis Delay

Plans for a six-bed dialysis unit in Southport could  be delayed by six months because of the government dragging its feet. Responding by letter to efforts by local MP John Pugh to chase up progress, the Minister responsible for this area, Ann Keen, states that the "Department of Health is to review the specifications of  schemes to ensure that they respond to the needs of the NHS and health communities."

MP calls for internet safeguards

Southport's MP John Pugh has tabled a Commons motion calling for video sharing sites such as YouTube to do more to prevent uncontrolled uploading of material some of which features acts of bullying, animal cruelty and sadism.

Spending watchdog is spent

John Pugh has described the resignation of Sir John Bourn from his position as head of the National Audit Office - the government spending watchdog - as ' the right decision'. Sir John announced his retirement on October 25th following months of adverse publicity surrounding his and Lady Bourn's travelling and entertaining expenses which reached over £300,000 in 3 years.

MP To Ask Supermarkets to Boost Recyling

With pressure on supermarkets to take back packaging M.P. John Pugh is to write to all the local supermarkets to see if they will subsidise additional plastic recycling facilities.

John Pugh comments: At the moment all the supermarkets are doing is giving house room to council financed facilities but there are three reasons why  I believe they can and should do more."
