AFGHAN CHIEF MEETS LOCAL MP

John Pugh met last week in his constituency office with Ajmal Khan, paramount chief of the Pashtoun tribe in Afghanistan. Pashtouns although the largest ethnic grouping in Afghanistan are frozen out of the Afghani government.

SOUTHPORT PAYS OUT 8 MILLION FOR IRAQ OCCUPATION...

But its not going to our troops!

Southport MP John Pugh has identified the cost of Government’s Bill for the ongoing military operations in Iraq. Liberal Democrat research has revealed that if spending continues at current levels it will reach over £5Bn by April this year – causing a cash crisis at the Ministry of Defence. The cost of the invasion of Iraq, which works out as £8million for every constituency in England, has affected other domestic services.

MP CALLS FOR BETTER TRAINING OF TRAFFIC WARDENS

During a debate on in the Commons on the Transport Select Committee's Report on Parking Enforcement, John Pugh called for better training for traffic wardens. He argued that they and the public needed to have a better understanding of the objectives of traffic regulations so that there would be less 'pointless enforcement' and 'misuse of time', and no culture of fine chasing.

Al Yamamah report must be released - Pugh

Liberal Democrat MP John Pugh has introduced a Private Members Bill which will enable MPs to force the Government to refer sensitive documents to Parliament for scrutiny. This follows the Government’s refusal to allow members of the Public Accounts Committee to read the recent National Audit Office report on the al Yamamah arms deal.

END CRUELTY PROTEST

Local MP John Pugh joined other MPs to protest at the continued slaughter of bears to provide headgear for British Troops. Although Dr Pugh has taken this up with the Ministry of Defence, they claim artificial fur just will not do.
