"I was elected as the member for Southport succeeding Ronnie (now Lord) Fearn in 2001. At Westminster I have served on the Transport, Local Government and Regions Select Committee, was Liberal Democrat education spokesperson with responsibility for schools, and following my re-election to Parliament, served as shadow spokesperson for Transport and have been working with Norman Lamb on the Health team. Since the election of Nick Clegg as party leader I've also been working as a spokesperson for Vince Cable's Treasury team.
